In thinking about what people have obeyed from the beginning of time, let us go back to Adam and Eve. The record says, in Genesis 3:1: "Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was food for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." Now, of course, the question just automatically comes, who did these obey? The answer is very obvious: they obeyed the voice of Satan, not the voice of the people, not the multitude, but the voice of Satan. Do you think because you cannot see him today that you can't fall into this category? That you can't obey the voice of Satan? Don't be too certain! Satan himself used devices. Paul said, "we are not ignorant of his devices." And we should beware, lest Satan should get an advantage over us, using his devices.

Listening To God's Word What is God's Word? How do we view the Bible? We have been influenced by a modern view of history that posits such a great distance between the then of the Bible and the now of our lives. The Bible seems to have lost its meaning and relevance. It is as though the Bible has been suffocated by history, and its vitality for some has been vanquished. Many have a large family Bible setting on a table which they consider as God's Word, but it has been relegated to the hallway of history, where it has joined the dated pictures of those who went before us, but whose voices are no longer heard. "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. " 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The language of God "breathing out" His Word is noteworthy. It reminds us that God is a speaking God. He does not simply exist, nor is He the ultimate recluse who remains hidden; rather, He is the God who speaks. The Bible is replete with reflection on God speaking. It begins and ends that way, and is filled from cover to cover with God speaking to His people. Click on link below, to hear from Mr. Dee Bowman why we should be Listening to God's Word. Why Go To Church
A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all." This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: "I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!" When you are DOWN to nothing..... God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment! "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is: but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. (Heb 10:25) "When Satan is knocking at your door, simply say, "Jesus, could you get that for me?" Note: Received this from Ray Dimbath (Retired Orlando NW Agent living in Lakeland). His sister e-mailed it to him, neither know who wrote it. Their Dad was a minister in the Miami area for Nazarene Church. |
